Sumiran Must Be Reinforced
If a part of our body like the nerves of the hands become weak, the physiotherapist suggests some exercise so that the weakened nerves regain strength. These exercises bring in stiffness. If one is facing problem of breathing, the doctor would suggest exercises for the lungs like blowing the balloons. Thus, we give more attention to the weak part of the body to strengthen it. Similarly, devotees are enthusiastic about attending congregations and rendering service, but there is slackness in Sumiran (God-remembrance), and it must be reinforced. In fact, if 'sumiran' is intensified, all other important aspects will automatically get energized. We will find stability in our variant life. God is stationary and immovable and if mind remains connected to God, it also gains stability, otherwise mind remains wavering. Life is moving, it is not like a stone, but while leading this life, man needs stability of mind which can be attained only through communion with God. I have the example of a stagnant pond in Mussoorie where the stagnated water becomes dirty, but the running water like in waterfalls in mountains is rather clean. Stagnated water is full of bacteria and dirt. But on the other hand, God is pure despite being stationary and unchangeable, while the changeable world is impure. I mean to say that the only way to attain stability of mind is to give the formless God top priority in life. I pray that while undertaking the journey of worldly life, one may keep focusing on God. I pray that God may empower everyone to lead such a life.
Make Truth As Our Base
Words are important only if acted upon, and based on love, faith and devotion. This is what distinguishes the saints. Although they may not be with us any more, their fragrance still touches us today; They have become worthy of our respect and honour. They attained lofty heights not with mere words, but with practical action. Words in themselves are not enough. If humility is talked about, it has to be practiced. We have to love others; mere talk of love will not suffice. If we talk about large heartedness, large hearted we must become. People can gauge our intensions; we cannot hide them for long. We must, therefore, watch what we say and always exercise control. We must not forget that God is with us all the time and knows our thoughts. Nothing is hidden from Him. We are all answerable to Him. We cannot argue before Him. Through the exemplary lives of saints and seers, He teaches us exactly how to live. Like a drunkard who stumbles, we can never walk the straight path, bewitched by wealth, education and ego. A stable walk requires the awareness of the Truth. There is a tendency not to accept responsibility, but to readily blame others. Yet, if we were to overcome the weaknesses of mind, stop indulging in slander and remain steadfast, then nothing would affect us adversely. By making the Truth as our base, we usefully concentrate on healing and providing solace to others.
