Greed Turns A Human In Demon
You might have heard the tale of three persons, who looted money and fled to wilderness. Two of them asked the third to fetch food from the nearby habitation and conspired to kill him to distribute the entire booty between themselves. When the third person came back with food, as planned he was killed by the two having done so they felt quite happy. After sometime they ate the food brought by the third person and started writhing with pain and died, because the food had been poisoned by the latter in order to grab whole of the booty! Just think what all the three gained out of their greed. Saints and sages teach that greed turns a human in demon. Similar is the case with a proud person. The pride may be of wealth, learning, power or position, he humiliates and hurts the feelings of others but saints and devotees being the embodiment of virtues never feel proud of the same. Though learned, they do not regard themselves as such. Though God-realised, they never feel proud, rather regard themselves as lowly. They inspire man not to look down upon others but to regard himself as the lowliest.
Devotees Can Change Narrow Thinking
Once two drunkards wished to beat someone. But they had no excuse to do so. Then one of them said:" I will provide the excuse. The sun is shining in the sky. I will ask that person coming towards us, ' what is that shining in the sky?' If he says it is the sun, I will beat him and if he says it is the moon, you will beat him." When that person came near the drunkards, one of them asked him, "brother what is that which is shining in the sky? The person was a wise one. He said, " I do not belong to this place. Therefore I do no know what the people over here call it." What is meant is that excuses are sought to inflict oppression and suppression. For this reason, if a cycle collides with a rickshaw, a curfew is imposed. Where do such incidents not occur? But the fact that the cycle belonged to Hindu and the rickshaw belonged to a muslim was a sufficient excuse to impose a curfew. This is how today man conducts himself. It is for you devotees to change such a narrow thinking, so that there remains no cause for conflicts and clashes. Where there is no such cause love, peace and brotherhood would prevail all around making the earth heaven.
