True Bargain—God Realisation
A prince was going for a bath in a river. The king told the servant to accompany the prince and take care of his costly garments and ornaments. While bathing, the prince began to drown and shouted for help. The servant heard the prince crying for help but kept sitting. Incidentally, the king reached the spot and saw the prince drowning and the servant sitting pretty. He asked the servant why he was not saving the prince who was drowning. The servant replied that as ordered by him [the king], he was guarding the costly garments and ornaments of the prince. Upon this the king retorted that the most important thing was the prince to whom the clothes and ornaments belongs. No doubt, we need a house, education, etc for living. But if the most precious of all the things, that is, life has been put at stake, what will be the fate of man? Similarly, if a child is drowned but his belongings saved, what is the use? Is it wisdom? No. It is a stark folly. That is why holy beings exhort man to strike the true bargain—God realization.
Turn The Earth Into Heaven Instead Of Hell
Once a man was chased by a tiger. Terrified, the man climbed up a tree to save his life and felt relieved. But sighting a bear sitting above in the tree, fear for life again gripped him. However, the bear assured him of his safety since he had sought refuge in him. Now down below was sitting the tiger waiting for the man to climb down and devour him and above in the tree was the bear telling him to relax. Meantime, the man began to doze and the tiger asked the bear to push him [man] down so that he [tiger] may satisfy his hunger and go away. But the bear replied: since the man has taken refuge in me, I cannot betray him. After a while the man woke up and the bear went to sleep. The tiger told the man: I only wish to satisfy my hunger. I am not particularly after you. Since the bear is sleeping, you should push him down to the ground so that I may eat him and go away. Ironically, to save his own life, the man pushed the bear to down. As the bear was falling down, it caught hold of a branch of the tree and told man: How wretched are you. You took refuge in me. Though I am an animal, I stood by you. But you, who is called superior to animals, have proved to be worst than an animal. What is meant is that today man is so cruel that he spreads fear all around. Holy beings strive to change such thinking so that he should not wish ill of or cause harm to anyone, rather turn the earth into heaven instead of hell.
