Be Human
Today man is greedy, selfish and narrow-minded, restless and ungrateful. His life is getting worse and worse. Holy beings teach that having been born as humans, we should imbibe humans values and conduct ourselves as true humans to prove that other incarnations are ‘meant to serve humans’—the crown creation. Human incarnation is much higher than other incarnations. That is why human incarnation is said to be a diamond. However, the conduct of man today reflects that lower incarnations are much better than humans who kill the innocent. If we have the statistics, we shall find that the number of humans killed by humans far exceeds those killed by animals. In this way, animals are far better than humans. In animals there are other virtues too, then what is man proud of? Man cannot compete with a horse in racing and with an elephant in carrying heavy loads. A human tooth is worthless, while an elephant’s tusk can fetch millions. Birds and butterflies are beautiful and colourful. Man has copied those colours and designs on cloth. Had man not be held the birds flying in the air, the idea of inventing an airplane would not have occurred to him. Man is unnecessarily boastful and conducts himself in a way that reflects that he is no better than birds and animals in many ways. “Be human” is an ancient call. If man was truly human by birth, there would be no need to remind him “Be human”. Though born as humans we do not conduct ourselves as humans. We do not learn from history and holy books and conduct ourselves foolishly. This proves that man is not wise. He is, therefore, inspired by holy beings to follow the holy teachings to embellish his life.
Saintly Advice Is Always Beneficial
We have example of saints and devotees who are held in high esteems. Let us ponder whether we are also imbibe saintly traits or our state of mind is like that of worldlings; we are like Kauravs. Lord Krishna did his best to make the Kauravas see reasons. He wished to avert the war of Mahabharat by advising the Kauravas to give one village each to five Pandavas. If the Lord were for war, he would have given a call for war straightaway. But the Kauravas replied: Not to speak of giving five villages, even space equal to the point of a neddle would not be given to the Pandavas. What is meant is that the Kauravas did not heed the saintly advice and how the dire consequences could be avoided. In other words saintly advice is always beneficial. Once two goats were coming from opposite directions to cross a bridge. The bridge was narrow and only one goat could cross it at one time. But each goat insisted on crossing the bridge first. They started fighting and both fell into the stream and were drowned. After a little while another pair of goats came to cross the same bridge from opposite directions. One goat lay down and other crossed over it. Then the first goat got up and also crossed the bridge safely. The moral: One should not be egoist. Ego destroys even sages. The humble always scale heights. The one, who keeps the company of saints, is ever humble.
