A Devotee Remains Firm And Stable Both In Pleasure And In Pain
Once a king asked a wise man the way to find out devotees of God in his kingdom, the method to call them and see them. The wise man said; “I am able to think of only one way. You may announce that those who are devotees of God, those who worship God, will not be required to pay any tax hereafter.” The king did so. The result was that by next morning devotees appeared all over. The king saw this and said to the wise man, “You gave me a good suggestion. I find all are inclined towards devotion to God. This has removed my disappointment of many days.” The wise man replied, “No, Sir. This is only one part of the proposal. Now, you announce that you want to extract some oil from the bodies of the devotees of God and use the same in a religious ceremony {Havan}.” This announcement was also made. The devotees having the spirit of dedication were called upon. When it was a matter of tax-exemption, devotees could be seen all around. Now that there was this new announcement, everybody removed the auspicious mark {Tilak} from the forehead hurriedly. Even the Sandal applied on bodies started disappearing. Everybody starting denying that he was a devotee of God. There was only one exception. Only one devotee came forward and surrendered himself, presented himself for the sacrifice. He did not hide himself. What we mean to say that a devotee does not retrace his steps, whatever the circumstances. He remains firm and stable both in pleasure and in pain.
God Is Omnipresent
Only those who follow and implement the words of Truth, get redemption of soul in this world and after life. Otherwise man fritters away the precious life. Even during ‘satyug’, which is considered the best period, there were evil elements like Harnakashyap who were ready to kill his own son Prahlad who had achieved the heights of devotion. Harnakashyap would find out ways such as to throw Prahlad from the hill top, burn him with a heated iron pillar and even trying to throw him in a pyre with the help of his sister Holika. Holika met with her fiery end at the pyre but great devotee Prahlad was unaffected. He prayed,”jal bhi Ram, thal bhi Ram” [God is omnipresent] while on the other hand Harnakashyap proclaimed his superiority over everyone and claimed himself to be omnipresent by saying,”jal bhi harnakashyap and thal bhi harnakashyap”. Harnakashyap did all this to prevent his own son from praising Lordmaster and all this happened during Satyug which is considered to be the greatest era where everyone gets redeemed through love and devotion.
