Today communication is very fast. So is the case with the mode of travel. There has also been great progress in medical science. But human nature remains, practically what it was: ego, enmity, oppression and exploitation still prevail. In the circumstances, how can we say that man has progressed? From the architectural point of view, man has made tremendous progress. Palatial houses, and high raise buildings are coming up. In this respect birds and animals cannot compete with man. A sparrow still builds its nest with straw as before; it does not make use of marble or granite for the purpose. In this regard man is far ahead of birds and animals. Though he has progressed in such fields, he is lagging behind spirituality, benevolence and humanism. In other words, to behave as a human is the highest virtue. Only if the man treads the path of humanism, can he think and conduct himself as a human and only then can humanism be established. Only if man imbibes humanism, he upholds religion, because humanism is the true religion. In every age holy beings have striven to establish the religion of humanism.

Holy beings inspire man to make his life sublime and, at the same time, speak sweetly. A koel [an Indian Cukoo] is known for its melodious voice though it is dark in complexion. On the other hand, a crow is also dark but its voice is harsh. While a koil wins over all by its melodious voice, on hearing its harsh voice, a crow is shooed away. What is meant is that sweet words win others. That is why it is said that one’s words should be as sweet as is a candy. Words should not only be sweet, but also truthful to benefit others. If one cannot speak sweetly, better one should keep quiet. That is why it is said: if your mind is shut, keep your mouth shut, too. If we look at home or society, we shall find immense harm is caused by harsh and improper words: the environment at home is vitiated because one or two family members speak tauntingly. The whole environment can be polluted by a single unpleasant word. On the other hand, there are families whose members always speak so sweetly that even a misunderstanding or alienation gets dispelled. On such an occasion even if one turns rash, the situation is controlled by sweet disposition and words.
