Know The One And Be One
The devotees are always God conscious, while a worldling is conscious only of the world. Though a devotee also lives in the world and deals with the worldly affairs, he is ever God conscious. An ignorant or a worldly person remains engrossed in the worldly affairs and the world always sways both his head and heart. Like the worldly, the devotees too live in the world and in their families and discharge their domestic and social obligations but they believe: ‘I am for God; God is all in all; He alone exists forever.’ A devotee lives in the world but knows that it is not everlasting; it is unreal, an illusion. We behold the world and the worldly phenomena with the eyes, but neither the eyes nor the world and its phenomena will last forever. On the contrary, God is eternal and those who realize God become godly. That is why holy beings are regarded as godly. How exalted is the one who realizes and makes God the mainstay of his life. Saint Kabir says,’ A stream which merges into a Ganges, turns into Ganges. A plant that grows by sandalwood smells like sandalwood. Copper that touches the philosopher’s stone, turns into gold.’ Likewise, associated with saints, Kabir has turned into a saint. That is to say, that proximity to sandal wood makes a plant imbibe its fragrance; contact with a philosopher’s stone turns copper into gold and stream or a drain merging into the river Ganges turns into Gange. Similarly by associating with saints, one turns a saint-godly. Than there remains no distinction between man and God. The devotees are giving the message: ‘Know the One and be one.’
God Remembrance Empowers Our Faith And Devotion
We should always do simran, that is to be ever God-conscious and never be oblivious of Him. Simran is not a mechanical repetition of God’s name. It means remembering God, breath by breath, and that we are ever conscious of His immediate and all round presence. At time, it is said that due to engagement in worldly affairs, we forget God. Therefore, we also pray that we may never forget God. No doubt, we have been liberated from the birth –death cycle, render selfless service and attend holy congregation, but there seems to be a lack of simran. When there is a lack of simran, we fall victim to so many weaknesses. Lack of simran breeds fear in the mind and we are deprived of the spiritual bliss. That is why we have been ordained to remember God at all times. Often people say that the Mission’s message is so simple but so high, so short and so intense. The message of Truth is always simple, while an artificial one is always complex. A simple thing is always easy. But even the simple truth has been wrapped in so many complexities. We give importance to simplicity. Doubtlessly, we have been liberated from the bondage and have not to indulge in mechanical recitation of God’s name. We can remember God while we are working or resting. In case if one feels that there is lack of simran on one’s part, one can remember God while at home, alone or with his family. All that is needed is to focus our mind on God. God-remembrance empowers our faith and devotion.
