Saints Never Imbibed Ego
A person builds a house for himself. His neighbor would take advantage of the shade his house by trying his buffalo by the side of his house. He was so jealous of his neighbor that he pulled down the side wall of his house and in the process his whole house crashed down. By and large this is the condition of the mind of the people in the world: They are so narrow minded and selfish. Holy beings wish that people may be large-hearted and broad minded and every human may imbibe such an attitude. Instead of grabbing, man may sacrifice himself for the good of the others and be humble and not egoist. Saints and devotees wished so and gave importance to humility. They never imbibed ego. On the one side is a person who does not wish that his neighbor may avail of the shade of his house and on the other are altruists who sacrifice their lives for the good of others. A tree bears the heat of the sun but provides cool shade to the travellers. Similarly, altruists bear all hardships to make others happy and comfortable. If people emulate them, this earth can become a heaven. Those who follow their example imbibe noble feelings and make others happy, and create a congenial and pleasant environment.
It Is Easy To Destroy But Difficult to Reconstruct
Human life is short but a human wastes it in greed, selfishness, violence, plunder, riots, atrocities, etc. Such is the magnitude of the human folly. Holy ones, therefore exhort a human to make the best of his limited life-span. His life should induce others to say that he is devoted to construction and not destruction. It is easy to destroy but difficult to reconstruct; it is easy to cause suffering but difficult to make others smile. The devotees always undertake difficult tasks, while the worldly the easy ones—causing harm. It is quite easy to push a person into a stream but quite difficult to rescue a drowning one. Similarly, it is easy to cut cloth into pieces but quite difficult to stitch the pieces; it is easy to cause a wound but difficult to heel it. In other words, there is no dearth of those who cause wounds or harm but rare are those who make others smile or heel a wound. As already stated, holy beings undertake difficult tasks of uplifting the fallen, rescuing the drowning and healing the wounded. Holy beings always wish that everyone may imbibe such an outlook and attitude so that all may lead a pious life, as wished by saints and devotees.
