Who Regard Himself Low, Is Indeed Great
We know so many scientists like Einstein who by their numerous inventions have benefited the world but they say that all they have known was not worth a particle of sand lying on the seashore. Even after knowing so much they say that they know so little, which reflects their humility. Similarly, a devotee, who is highly revered, says that he has not really imbibed even a little of devotion. In truth, the one, who is great but regards himself low, is indeed great. A devotee possesses many virtues but says that he knows very little and has to learn much as yet. He is ever eager to learn. He continues to learn by which his devotion is strengthened. If one considers himself perfect and none as wise as he, how can he learn? For him all doors are closed and the way to progress blocked. He shall remain stuck where he is or he will slide from where he is. What is meant is that the devotees have a special place in the world but regard themselves as humble, not even equal to the dust of the holy feet. This is how they consider themselves and yet they are regarded as great, nay the greatest, because they continue to imbibe humility.
Great Are Those Who Tolerate
Is it so easy to be a human? If it were so easy for one to be a human, there would be no need to repeat: ‘Man, be human’. One has to toil for accomplishing a difficult task but when one dedicates oneself to it, one achieves one’s aim. We know well that those, who wish to be runners, are dedicated to running to gain the first position. They practice running, day and night. If a runner aims to win the race but instead of practicing, praises the past runners or goes on repeating the rules of the game, he cannot win the race. He can gain stamina only if he practices. Practice leads to victory. The devotees also strive to strengthen their devotion. They practice humility and tolerance. They put up with harsh words, but do not react or lose their temper, rather they keep developed the spirit of tolerance. A poet has rightly said: Great are those who tolerate and not those who react. Those who provoke or terrorise should not think that they are powerful. Humility and tolerance are signs of strength. The worldly people regard these traits as a sign of weakness but those are very powerful. The devotees touch each other’s feet in full public view. How many can do so? Then who is stronger? The one who imbibes humility is definitely stronger.
