Love That Only Gives
In materialistic relationships, love is often dealt with like a business, with the expectation that if I'm doing something for someone today, they will do something for me tomorrow. This barter is not love; rather, completely surrendering to the Supreme Being is Divine Love in essence. The Supreme Being loves everyone equally all the time, just like the rays of the sun do not discriminate, they shine equally on everyone.
Gratitude
Some friends went to see the king for the first time. It was a coastal area, so they took coconuts as a gift. When they arrived in the kingdom, they saw that walnuts were in trend there, which too were not available in the region they came from. So they replaced the coconuts with walnuts. As they proceeded further, they saw onions being traded in the city, which were not available in their area, so they replaced the walnuts with onions. Now, when they offered those onions as a gift to the king, he was not pleased at all because onions were very common in that kingdom. The king said, "Put these onions on their heads, and hit each of them with these onions so that the juice of the onion comes on their faces and clothes." Upon hearing this, one of the friends said, "It would have been better if we would have come here empty-handed." The other said, "If we would have brought walnuts instead of onions, it would have hurt more, and if we had brought coconuts and they hit our heads with that, we would have been dead." The moral of the story is that things turn out differently from what we expect, but we must remain in a state of bliss in every situation that life presents to us.
